First Saturday in August
Campfire Day – On a recent vacation, I let my son show off his Boy Scout skills and build a campfire. I was a little nervous but it turned out to be a great memory. We roasted marshmallows over the campfire then made smores.
First Sunday in August
Best Friend Day – Encourage your child to celebrate their friends, no matter their age, by celebrating them today. Whether it be by taking them all to a movie or dropping off homemade gifts.
Root Beer Float Day – Whip up a Rootbeer (or Coke or Dr. Pepper) float before school starts! One scoop of vanilla ice cream goes into a tall glass then fill the rest up with your child’s favorite soda.
Happiness Happens Day – Science has shown that performing Random Acts of Kindness for others actually increases your happiness. Need ideas? There are 80 you can do with your children in the resource library available for download for free.
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion. Dalai Lama
Relaxation Day – the start of school is stressful for everyone: kids are emotionally tired even if they excited. If you have already started school, then make sure to circle this “celebration day” and embrace it.
National Potato Day – Make it a potato day: hashbrowns for breakfast, potato soup for lunch and fries or hot potato for dinner. Your kids may think it’s crazy – but that’s the point. Relax and have fun doing something out of the ordinary your kids are sure to remember.
Senior Citizens Day – Here’s the perfect excuse to take some cards out to a nursing home with your kids.
National Banana Split Day – Have your kids join you in making a traditional banana split.
