Can you imagine never wearing a pad or tampon again? Seriously.
Can you imagine your daughter not having to worry about sneaking out of class with a tampon? Not worrying about TSS?
Period proof underwear allows you to forgo disposable feminine hygiene products and wear high-quality underwear instead. I must have been living under a boulder because apparently, it has been around for a while. This is a no-brainer for me as I am working on a more natural and less-waste lifestyle. However, they had to work and not be messy, obviously.
One of my friends posted a link to THINX on her Facebook wall and I didn’t believe it so I had to watch every video on their site and think about it for about three weeks. Then I bought just one pair and kid you not, I waited in anticipation for my period.
I couldn’t believe how well they worked. In fact, I washed them every single night by hand that whole week so I could wear them continuously. The underwear alone prevented me from wearing any pads, panty liners, or tampons at all, even at my heaviest. The same testimony is true of my friends. However, their website does indicate you may still need to wear a tampon during your heaviest days.
As opposed to other natural alternatives to tampons, like the cup, this is mess free. You wouldn’t think that it would be but I encourage you to go to their site and watch the video about how their underwear is made. While there check out the work they are doing in other countries for young girls that drop out of school completely simply because of their periods. They are helping with those efforts with each purchase of a pair of their underwear.
After my first purchase of one pair, I went online and bought enough for a full week for the next month. I also bought one pair, the smallest size I could buy, for my daughter. When she begins her period instead of struggling with tampons or pads or embarrassing leaks, I will hand her the underwear.
How easy and natural and safe is that? I so wish I had this underwear when I was growing up and when I first started my period. Perhaps she will only have to use a tampon when she is going swimming, otherwise, she won’t have to worry about leaks, and having to carry a tampon in her purse to the bathroom during class or all the other embarrassing stories we all have!
Some companies are coming out with organic tampons now. Have you wondered why? Also knowing that the term “organic” is not monitored by our government. Most tampons have “fragrance” added to their ingredients which is a catch-all phrase. Companies do not have to disclose what is included in that term, it is considered a trade secret. This article lists 6 toxic ingredients in our tampons to watch out for.
On average women have their period for 38 years. That’s depressing. The underwear seems a little pricey at first. But then consider how much you will spend on hygiene products during the next 38 years – approximately 17,000 tampons/liners in your life. Yikes!
