Let me guess. You don’t have the time or desire to scrapbook but want to preserve the memories of your kids? Have you tried a video memories app before?
I’m guessing you have a ton of videos on your phone with nothing to do with them. Don’t delete them! It’s everyday memories that make life worth living. And there’s a great resource that takes virtually zero time and effort to help you preserve these memories.
One of my favorite video memories app is 1 Second Everyday. I have used it for 3 years now!
How I use the app to make yearly memories
This app allows you to take all of your videos and smash them together to make one large video. You can customize the dates make a movie that is a few months long, years long, or a whole year. Each snippet is one second.
I like to make one video per year. To do this, I try my best to take a small video of my kids each day. Obviously, I miss days….or weeks! Then periodically throughout the year I go into the video memories app and add to my ongoing project.
I choose the date and then choose the video and which one second I want and the app smashes it together!
Your videos each day can be longer than one second. The software will let you choose which 1 second you want to capture for that day. Additionally, if you don’t have any videos for March 10, for example, you can go in and grab a video from March 9 to supplement. You can also have holes throughout the year.
You can do a lot of other fun things with it as well. If you only wanted to record a vacation, for example, you could take a whole bunch of videos on your trip then go in a “smash” them all together then have one video spanning all of your experiences during your vacation.
I would have loved having this when my children were babies, seeing how quickly they grow over the first couple of years. Can you imagine a video showing just one second of them all year long smashed together?
Even though my children are not babies anymore, I am still amazed how much they grow each year. You can really see the progression of their growth in a video that spans from January to December. You can also watch your heartaches and what you and your children have overcome throughout the year together.
This is the only video I really save. At the beginning of the year, I smash the video and export it to my Photo Album on my iPhone then upload it to my laptop. Then I delete all the individual videos from my phone since I don’t have that much memory on my phone.
This is actually a sweet time my children and I spend together at the end of the year. They enjoy watching the video and remembering the whole year together.

One tip – make all your videos in landscape mode. Otherwise, it will look funny if the video jumps to one second to portrait mode. The seamless view of all the videos in landscape makes it look like one conditions movie.
